Erik R. Peterson
Project Founder and Director:
As senior vice president at CSIS and Director, Global Strategy Institute, ERIK R. PETERSON oversees the development and implementation of the Institute's research agenda and publications program. He also holds the William A. Schreyer Chair in Global Analysis, an endowed position named in honor of the Merrill Lynch chairman emeritus and CSIS Executive Committee member. Peterson came to the Center from Kissinger Associates, where he was director of research. He holds an M.B.A. in international finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. in international law and economics from the School of Advanced International Studies at the Johns Hopkins University, and a B.A. from Colby College. He holds the Certificate of Eastern European Studies from the University of Fribourg in Switzerland and the Certificate in International Legal Studies from the Hague Academy of International Law in the Netherlands. Robin Niblett
Senior Project Associate:
Executive vice president at CSIS, ROBIN NIBLETT first joined the Center in 1988 and worked as a research associate in the CSIS Political-Military Studies Program before becoming the CSIS European representative, based in the United Kingdom from 1992 to 1997. He rejoined CSIS in Washington in July 1997. As a senior fellow in the Europe Program and former director of the CSIS Atlantic Partnership project, he specializes in U.S.-European trade and economic relations, transatlantic defense cooperation, and the ongoing process of European political and economic integration. Niblett has contributed to a number of CSIS books and reports, including The Atlantic Alliance Transformed (1992) and From Shadows to Substance: An Action Plan for Transatlantic Defense Cooperation (1995), and he is the coeditor of Rethinking European Order: West European Responses, 1989-97 (Palgrave, 2001). Niblett received his M.Phil. and Ph.D. from Oxford University, where he was also retained as a lecturer in politics at Pembroke College.

Jay C. Farrar
Senior Project Associate:
Formerly deputy assistant secretary for legislative affairs in the Department of Defense (DOD), JAY FARRAR is vice president for external relations and congressional affairs at CSIS. He is the primary CSIS liaison with Congress and the media, and coordinates projects in the areas of export controls and international trade. At DOD, Farrar was the primary liaison with the Senate; prior to joining DOD, he served as director of legislative affairs for the National Security Council (1998–1999), where he was principal congressional liaison for the White House and National Security Council. He played a central role in White House and interagency deliberations regarding long-range constructive engagement and crisis situations. From 1994 to 1998, Farrar was legislative assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Farrar served on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps for over 22 years. He holds a master's degree in management from Central Michigan University and a bachelor's degree in communications from Marquette University.

Laura Keating
Project Coordinator:
LAURA KEATING is project coordinator for the SEVEN FUTURES Initiative. She also serves as the program coordinator for the Global Strategy Institute at CSIS. Laura received her B.A. in East Asian Studies from Penn State University where she was part of the Schreyer Honors College. She also studied at Beijing University.

 

 

Johanna Nesseth Tuttle
Project Associate:
JOHANNA NESSETH TUTTLE is the director of strategic planning at CSIS. Prior to joining the Center, she led voter education and outreach efforts for the League of Women Voters in Minneapolis. From 1995 until 1997 she worked on refugee resettlement and education issues for Hmong American Partnership in St. Paul, Minnesota. Johanna holds a B.A. in English literature from the University of Minnesota and a degree in Portuguese studies from the University of Lisbon, and is working toward an M.A. in international affairs at George Washington University.

Fruzsina Csaszar
Project Associate: Fruzsina Csaszar is a research assistant with the SEVEN FUTURES Initiative at CSIS. She received her bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of Georgia and is currently completing a master’s degree at Georgetown University, specializing in development studies and U.S. foreign policy.
